A Veterans Day Thank You

Saw a black man wearing a Vietnam Veteran hat in the PATH station today and went up to him and shook his hand and thanked him for his service. Though I would have probably been one of the people protesting the war, the man put his life on the line for the US and when he came home he, like many black GIs before, still faced with America’s institutional racism that continues to affect his community and status in the country. I don’t know his story or his name but by me thanking him I was able to show that I see him and I respect him for all he has had to endure as a black veteran, a role filled with many contradictions. #VeteransDay
