Ted Cruz Tells Trayvon Martin’s Mom ‘Stand Your Ground’ Is Not About Race

I think I need to stop getting surprised at how those who are privileged and do not have to worry about the issues of double consciousness can say that Trayvon’s shooting was not racially motivated. What gets me is the audacity to go further and say “Stand your Ground” helps African Americans which was not the case for Marissa Alexander who onlyu recently received a new trial

  1. Wow…cherry picking examples to disprove facts.

You’ll note that the facts show that what Ted Cruz said is true.

And with regards to the Marissa Alexander case — isn’t it kind hard to argue “Stand your ground laws” apply when the left the site of the crime, went to her car, retrieved a firearm, then returned to the scene and fired a warning shot?

If she was in fear of her life, why didn’t she leave?
If She was in fear of her life, why didn’t she stay at the car and call the police?
If she was in fear of her life, why did she return?

    1. Are you going around the blog to find things you disagree with to start a debate? My blog reflects my opinions and feelings about how race is entrenched in American society. What my posts on this blog show is how “facts” can be influenced by institutionalized racism so that black people are not afforded the same liberties in the forms of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness due to questions of how they are perceived in American society. Stand Your Ground would be fine if there was ever a way to wash Americans of their racial biases and assumptions but since that is not possible it proves to be dangerous to black people as their motives and behavior will always be held in question by others.

And if I am? Honestly I enjoy reading different perspectives on events and do like to chime in. And when I see mis-information I want to get the correct data out there. Stand You Ground Didn’t have anything to do with the Zimmerman/Martin — it was pure self defense — both legally and morally.

? My blog reflects my opinions and feelings about how race is entrenched in American society.

And my comments reflect my opinions and feelings – and I agree race is entrenched in American society. What I see though is some individuals aren’t willing to admit they view the world through racist lenses; regardless of the color of their skin.

    1. What you are suggesting a faulty concept of reverse racism which tries to argue that black people can be racists towards whites. Based on on how racism operates, this is illogical as racism requires systematic power to oppress others based on race. With institutionalized racism there comes a adamant protection of white privilege and an attempt to undermine and disprove the legitimate opinions and concerns of black people in America.
